Philippians 2:5-8 010724

We will be heading back into the Book of Philippians. We are going to be continuing in the 2nd Chapter; and then fishing off a little early so that we can partake of Communion together as a family.

Paul, in our text, has been encouraging the church in Philippi, and us, to not be like this culture where everyone is looking out for their own needs and wants. He challenges us to not just look out for our interests but also for the interests of others. To do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit.

Last week we talked about how difficult this can be in our culture. This week, Paul is going to share with us that we have the ultimate example to look to accomplish this tall order. Jesus demonstrated for all of us what looking out for the interests of others looks like. Jesus did not just talk the talk but walked the walk. It is mind blowing to think about all that Jesus emptied Himself of, to come down to earth in the form of a babe, only to be rejected, beaten, mocked and tortured.

We are going to be swimming in some pretty deep theological waters tomorrow morning and address some misunderstood text, and some man-made beliefs of who Jesus is. Paul is going to help clarify how Jesus is the ultimate example of serving others.
