1 Timothy 2:9-15 060924

Jun 9, 2024    David Clark

We are back in 1 Timothy 2, and we will be finishing off the Chapter.

This is the Sunday that many of you have been waiting for, as we begin to look at the different roles of men and women in corporate worship. Our text seems to fly in the face of gender norms in culture.

This text is so counter-cultural that many have tried to discredit Paul, or just simply skip this text because it does not seem to support our culture's idea that anyone can do anything they want.

At first glance it may appear that Paul has a very low view of the role of women in the church, but as unpack the text we will see that this is not the case. Paul was a strong supporter of women in ministry. However, Paul would not bend the God- ordained order of creation and the separate and distinct roles men and women have in this world to appease the culture.

Some folks might read this text and ask:

Is Paul saying that we women have to come to church wearing dresses down past their ankles?

Is Paul saying that women have to enter into the church in silence and stay that way until they leave?

Is Paul saying that women can't be used in ministry?

Is Paul saying that the way women get saved is by having babies?

We will address all of these questions and more on Sunday. Including a verse that many theologians call the most difficult verse in all of the bible.
