1 Chronicles 11-13 100523

Tonight, we are heading into a new Book of the bible, 1 Chronicles. Why 1 Chronicles you ask? As a church we have already covered from Genesis to 2 Kings. It is the next Book in the Old Testament that we have not covered.

The Book of 1st and 2nd Chronicles is generally believed to be written by Ezra. In it we are going to see the life of David and Samuel from a different perspective than that found in Samuel or Kings. This Book would have brought great comfort to the Israelites as they would read about their history and how they were still a people that held the promises of God. This would have been important to building nationalism as they returned from the Babylonian captivity and were forced to rebuild that which was destroyed.

This Book starts out with 10 chapters of genealogies, which is why I asked everyone to read these chapters before we begin our study tonight. These genealogies were of utmost importance to the Israelites as they were returning from captivity and needed to know what territory their tribes were and who were the priests.

Tonight, we are going to be starting in Chapter 11 with David being anointed as King. We will end our study tonight with the Ark being moved towards Jerusalem. They wouldn't make it to Jerusalem as they were not mindful of the Lord's direction of who can move the Ark, and how to move the Ark from place to place.
