Wednesday Night Bible Study 041923 Deuteronomy 27-28
We are getting really close to finishing off the Book of Deuteronomy. Which means we are getting to the end of Moses's life, the beginning of Joshua's leadership, and entering into the Promised Land.
We are going to see Moses telling the Israelites about what they can expect in the Promised Land. What the Israelites can expect is contingent upon their obedience to the Lord.
If the Israelites are obedient they will receive blessings in abundance. The blessing will be so thick that they will pursue and overtake the Israelites. However if they are disobedient the converse will be true.
When we read our text, it seems like a no-brainer. Who in the world would be disobedient and receive plagues, and boils, and famine, and death? Unfortunately, we will see as we go through the history of the Israelites that they will not choose wisely.
Before we shake our heads and ask "Why would they make such a dumb choice?" We also need to remember how we in our own lives have chosen disobedience over and over and over again.
Thanks be to God that we are no longer under the Law. Thanks be to God that we have a merciful and forgiving God that sent His Son to pay the penalty we deserve.
