Joshua 2 061423

Today we will be moving into the 2nd Chapter in the Book of Joshua.

We will be reading about 2 spies that Joshua will send out to spy out the land of Canaan, especially the city of Jericho. This would be a pretty gutsy thing for Joshua to do considering what happened the last time spies were sent out into this land.

In our text we will meet a woman by the name of Rahab, a prostitute that will provide lodging for the two spies, and will hide them from the King's guards.

Why would Rahab hide these Israelites spies from her own countrymen? Because Rahab knew that the Lord had already decreed that the city of Jericho would be handed over to the hands of the Israelites. Rahab expressed an amazing faith in the Lord and His plans, considering she was not an Israelite. This faith is what would save her.

Rahab will make a deal with the spies to save her and her family. This would be accomplished by hanging a crimson cord from her home's window to remind the Israelites to protect all the inhabitants of that home.

What we will see in our text is a foreshadowing of how our Lord would also save us through our faith in the crimson sacrifice and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
