Matthew 14 100123
In our text tomorrow morning, we are going to be seeing one of Jesus's many trials, after having been arrested. The trial we will be reading about would be one of the illegal trials that occurred at night and filled with supposed eyewitnesses that would label Jesus as a terrorist. The problem was that these eyewitnesses could not get their stories straight, they contradicted each other. The other problem was that the religious leaders did not want a terrorism conviction, but one of blaspheme.
During the trials Jesus stayed quiet, fulfilling the prophecy of Isaiah 53:
7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted,
yet he opened not his mouth;
like a lamb that is led to the slaughter,
and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent,
so he opened not his mouth.
However, Jesus would eventually tell them that He is in fact the Son of Man, which led to his verdict of guilty.
We will also get a glimpse of Peter during these trials. He would deny Jesus three times, just as Jesus said He would, before the rooster crowed twice. The guilt and shame Peter felt was immense and he fled the courtyard sobbing.
