Matthew 16:5-23

Who is Jesus to you?

This is a question that should break and reconstitute our hearts over and over again. However, many Christians have never truly contemplated this question. They may have heard some things about Jesus on a Sunday from a preacher, from a friend, on TV, or from family members about Jesus and they simply tried to assimilate those folks' belief in Jesus.

This morning we will be back in the 16th Chapter in the Gospel of Matthew. Jesus will be asking His disciples: "Who do you say that I am"? A question I pray that each of us spend time asking ourselves. We can not just adopt the faith of friends or family, it needs to be our own personal faith.

In our text I will also be briefly "Geeking Out" linguistically as we study Jesus's response to who Peter said He was. We will also see Jesus mentioning "The Church" for the first time, and He will also be plainly telling the disciples that in Jerusalem He would suffer, die, and be resurrected. Peter was not a fan of this, and put his "foot in mouth" disease on display by trying to rebuke Jesus.
