1 Peter 5:8-14
This morning we are heading back into the Book of 1 Peter. We will be finishing off the chapter and the Book of 1 Peter.
I have lived out here in the country for a while now. So I am no stranger to hearing that there is a bear roaming around the area. It happens pretty frequently, and usually the bear sightings include pictures of the damage the bear has done to a person's property.
If the bear sighting is near your property, folks tend to be more careful leaving the house, working in the yard, or going for long walks alone. The reason for being more cautious is that bear's can be dangerous. The last thing you want to walk into is a hungry bear and her cubs, when you are away from any sort of weapon.
Now, usually, most bears want nothing to do with humans. They are not looking for a fight, or a human snack; they simply want to be left alone
This morning, Peter is going to be reminding us that we have to be watchful and vigilant in our Christian walk because we have a dangerous predator that is intentionally hunting humans. Unlike bears, this predator is prowling around seeking humans to devour.
This enemy, the devil, is a master of disguise and will try to get us to think that he is not real, a funny cartoon character or a harmless-teethless being that is locked up in Hell. However, nothing could be further from the truth. The devil is a dangerous adversary that is intentionally seeking our humans, especially Christians, to destroy and devour.
This morning, Peter is going to remind us that we are not powerless against this enemy. We have weapons to use against him; and we have a God that is much more powerful than this dangerous enemy.
