2 Peter 3:11-18
This morning we will be finishing off the 3rd Chapter, and the Book of 2 Peter.
Last week I told everyone that this week we will get a little Revelationie, and we are going to see that this week as Peter will be describing how the world will end.
Peter is going to be addressing an theological belief that all Christians hold dear, the return of Christ. However, he will be addressing the fact that the false teachers were going around telling people that Jesus was not going to return.
The false teachers argument was that nothing is going to change, the world will just keep on going without any cataclysmic events. Their premise of why Jesus was not going to return was that if He was going to return He would have done so already.
Peter will take these false teachers to school and explain the patience of God and how a thousand years is as one day to the Lord. Peter will also address the Christians and ask the questions:
11 Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness, 12 waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set on fire and dissolved, and the heavenly bodies will melt as they burn!
In other words, since we know the Lord can return at any time, and this world will eventually be destroyed by fire; How should we act as we wait?
