Mark 12 072323

Jul 23, 2023    David Clark

Today we are headed back into the 12th Chapter in the Gospel of Mark.

As I mentioned last week, the text we will be studying is some text that at first glance can make someone a bit sad. This should not be surprising, as there is a lot of text that a person can read in the bible that might make someone sad. However, what is surprising is the fact that the text we are going to read has to do with heaven.

Heaven is supposed to be a place with no more tears and no more pain so how could something in heaven make us sad. Exactly, the reason someone might be sad is because of our limited human capacity to understand the nature of heaven. No, the text has nothing to do with the fact that there are no McDonalds or Krispy Kreme's in heaven.

Why would our text make us sad if it has to do with what we will experience in Heaven? You will have to come tomorrow morning and find out.

Then we will read about what are considered the greatest commandments. Now, for us as Christians we would assume that this would be pretty easy considering there are only 10 commandments. However, back then the rabbi's had 613 commandments that they listed as important, so it would be a much bigger pool to choose from.
